The State of ViciousOnslaught, and what I think of it.

Back in 1995 when Me and my best friend Hitman213 thought up the video game idea that became ViciousOnslaught last year, things were way different. For starters our character wasn't as fleshed out... We knew he was going to be a cyborg who listened to metal music but that's it. Hitman213, I credit him for inventing this character. I had very little to do with the creation of Asshole. Back then we had no name for him. Hitman213 invented the name "Bastard". We called him that in the design document and not till 2009 did I change his name to Asshole.  Back then he was just a cyborg mercenary, nothing as over the top as he became in 1997 and later. He wasn't supposed to say anything in the initial design idea from 1995. In fact a lot of things were different in 1995.. The game was NOT post-apocalyptic like it is now, and there were no one liners, whatsoever...

It would be 2 games, Terminator : Future Shock, and  Duke3d that would change all of that.

Looking back, our design document was filled with controversy. It was one of the most controversial, disgusting, offensive, game ideas ever invented.  Bastard/Asshole was supposed to be able to kill innocent civilians for health, rip out guts and eat them, flip off people with a certain key, be able to piss and shit in the game, and last but not least, run over people in vehicles. Certain characters and weapons were really over the top. The Monstrosity, which was 150 feet tall at the time, was supposed to grab school busses, bite of the top, and "drink" down the school children, which all gave it indigestion, and then it would puke them out on you. All the school children were toddlers. The weapon ideas were really really controversial, especially the Enema Launcher, Turd Bomb and Skewer.  The Enema Launcher would have shot an "ass-homing" enema projectile that punctured the clothing of enemies right on the rear end and pump that rear-end with soap, causing the body to separate in two, the top half (above the legs) would fly in the air, sending guts and soap everywhere.  The gun also fired two other kinds of "ass-homing" projectiles, Hot Poker rounds and barbwire rounds. Can you imagine giving some "innocent" civilian a "barbwire enema"? The Turd bomb was a like a big grenade, but when it exploded, it did that over the enemy, and dropped tons of radioactive turd on them! The Skewer shot a dart on a chain that impaled the enemy. The dart would then expand to form a plate and you could yank it back to the weapon, disemboweling the enemy in the process. The thing would have done this fast.. Really fast.  Hitman213's original idea for the name for this weapon was going to be called the "gut-spew gun!".  That kind of controversy, plus horribly offensive one liners like the below ones, would have made this game really offensive and disgusting...

"Yup that's one hellacious Dump"
"You're as hot as a naked eskimo, in the north pole, during the winter"
"Hey Porkey, the Bible's what I wipe with when I masturbate!"
"Common you Pussies"
"You're soul betta belong to someone, cause your ass is mine!"
"Damn I got bigass feet"

Later in development I added more one liners such as:

"You've been Splounchked!"
"How to Speak San-Fransiscan! VAGOINA!"
"Got my sunscreen, Check, Got my Bathing suit, Check, Got my Softdrinks in my Cooler, Check,
All I need now are Tequila and Hookers!"
"Up the Irons!"
"Take That, Fudgepacker!"
"You Fucking Turdburglar!"
"Take that, Fatass!"

Speaking of "Innocent" civilians. One hilarious Idea I thought of is that all the Civilians you fight are NOT Innocent, in fact they are all brainwashed by the cult villians to attack you first, the cult pumps gas into the air that converts them to cult worshippers and they attack. So killing them is like killing any other enemy in the game, it wasn't like they were innocent. No they attacked first, so killing them was actually Justified in the story. We named this gas "Brain-o" which was sort of a parody of "Drain-o".

The idea looking back at it, would have NEVER been accepted by the gaming companies we were to give it to in the form we wanted. 1) It was to overdone. TOO MANY ideas. Too many weapon ideas (150+), Too Many Enemy Ideas (150+), Too Many Level Ideas (100+). Each level was supposed to be city sized with 3d textures, deformable terrain, etc... There is no way in hell any engine could have ever done this in 1998-2002! Plus our ideas were offensive as hell, and after Columbine, a lot of them would have been censored, I feared. So in Lue of that, I decided to quit the idea and told Hitman213 we couldn't continue...

But looking back, I'm glad the game got made in some form. I know this is not the Ideal form for it to be made, but at least it is done. Always wanted to see what kind of  game it would be if it was made, so I made it as an oldschool FPS. Kind of the way it was originally intended in 1997. This game turned out to be quite the throwback, at least on the graphics end of things. It feels like a game that would have been made in 1997 or 1998.  It wasn't intended to be this oldschool looking originally, remember we wanted really good graphics for this thing, on par with F.E.A.R. or something like that. But this will do for me, for now... Now way in hell would I be able to make this thing with modern engines, it wasn't going to happen, I cannot do that, not that good at modding you see so this will have to do....

I like the way the game came out. It's good... Looks a lot different from the original idea. The monster designs changed a lot, thanks to our ideas not being on the repository I used. But a lot of the weapons and some enemies look similar at least to our ideas.  It doesn't have as many levels, or enemies, or even weapons as the design document had in 1999 or so but it has a lot. 40 weapons, 20+ enemies, 30 levels, plus 32 bonus missions, it's a lot for a game.

Lots of crap was cut out but It was worth it. Certain things I wish could be brought back, but cannot, are animated skies we wanted, post apocalyptic weather,  security devices, the tsunami gun, giant city sized levels with lots of vehicles to drive, etc. Certain ideas were added that actually helped to make it better however, such as buying weapons, choosing what mission to do at what time,  cyborg powers and many others... It helped make the game more fun, so in some ways, it's better than the design document's game idea...

So overall I like the idea.. Looking forward to the release.... Here is a new trailer for the game... Check it out...
